Seattle’s Nordic Museum is an internationally recognized museum and cultural center where people of all backgrounds are welcomed to be inspired by the values, traditions, art, and spirit of the Nordic peoples.
They enlisted Bizango to create a new website at the beginning of a capital campaign to create an ambitious new building in the heart of downtown Ballard. The website’s goals: expand their community to welcome more generations, more community members, and more people from all backgrounds to their events, exhibits, performances and classes.
Increasing membership and member participation meant finding a way to surface the myriad activities that were happening but hard to find on the old, siloed website. Instead of a hierarchical approach that required visitors to choose between “classes” and “lectures” when navigating the site, we created a dynamic, theme-driven tagging system that makes it easy to showcase events and content based on a shared theme, age group, or even type.
We integrated Eventbrite registration for ticketing, and launched visual drag and drop tools that make it easier for museum staff to promote whatever’s hot right on the homepage.
The next few days of upcoming events are automatically featured, with past events rolling off to the archives.
And because of flexible structure of the site, when the museum rebranded this year to coincide with the grand opening of their new location, the Bizango team was able to refresh the site quickly across the board.
